Our natural water
The “natural mineral water” in Innsbruck is of the highest quality
Experts describe the water in Innsbruck as “natural mineral water”, which is made of 99% spring water. It lies in the mountain for up to 20 years, being cleaned and enriched with minerals – to then spring out of every tap as one of life’s necessities in its purest and natural form. It’s almost a shame to use it for showering ...
When an Innsbruck citizen gave his consent to the building of a water pipe through his land in 1485, the way was paved for the supply of water to the Tyrolean capital. Already back then, a spring in the Nordkette mountains served as a collecting basin for this mountain treasure. This process lasted around 10 to 20 years, taking place in relatively cold surroundings with an average temperature of 4.5°c. Only then does this natural, predominantly “soft” element that is water, re-surface at a quality suitable for drinking.
Since the beginning of the water supply in the 15th Century, many developments have been made enabling the retrieval of this precious raw material. Where before the water was collected on the surface, today ducts plunge up to 700m deep into the mountain, from which the water is then channelled to the drinking water works and eventually into the houses. Between 550 and 1,400 litres per second is collected in this system, depending on the time of the year – proof that the water supply in Innsbruck will also be secure in the future.
There’s only drinking water in Innsbruck ...
... which incidentally the experts agree is one of the best in the world, and which is also used for showering, bathing and in the home. However, even in Tyrol with its nearly inexhaustible supply of water, during recent years awareness has grown that we must be careful with this “mountain treasure”.
Correspondingly, people now think more about the positive health effects of this substance, which need not be bought in bottles but simply flows out of the taps: straight from the mountains, totally free from germs, entirely untreated, naturally enriched with calcium, magnesium and hydrocarbonate . a source of energy branded "pure nature".
The human body, which is 63% water, also has a corresponding need for liquids: around two litres for someone weighing 60kg and more than three litres for someone of 90kg. Water is also used as a remedy – especially in homoeopathy. What could be better than taking in a feeling of goodness, health and nature in their purest forms with a great gulp of water? And it's totally calorie free to boot ...
